Prevents oil from leaking out of your crankcase at the front crankshaft flange. This is an original McLaren part.

The engine crankcase in your car is filled with oil to keep everything lubricated, and to keep the oil inside of the engine, seals are used anywhere there is a seam in the engine, or any place a shaft protrudes from the engine.
One such seal is the front main crankshaft seal. This seal is located around the crankshaft at the front of the engine, and keeps oil from leaking out around the crankshaft. Unfortunately, over time seals will become brittle, crack and begin to leak due to their exposure to heat and oil. These seals also must be replaced when rebuilding an engine.
If you have noticed oil dripping from underneath the back of your car, near the front of the engine, chances are that a failed crankshaft seal is to blame.
